Hull anodes

Hi to all:

Does anyone out there have a hull anode on his/her boat? (It's usually the turtle-shaped zinc anode where you attach the bonding cable.) Most people attach the negative battery terminal to their engine block, but I understand it's better to then take another cable from that point to a hull anode.

Nicholas,
On most boats the shaft zinc is electricaly connected to the engine block. In some cases a flexible coupling may break this connection but a jumper strap can restore it. Sometimes when my boat is not being used frequently I will put a zinc guppy on it. This is wired to the negative lug on the engine and then dangled over the side and in the water. The only purpose that this serves is to slow down wastage of the shaft zinc.
